A 5-Minute Way To Fight Climate Change
Today I want to share with you a very easy way you can help the U.S combat climate change.
Why I Care About Climate Change
As a bit of background, I am a student of public health and work with very vulnerable communities. This experience has shown me how devastating the effect of climate change is and will be. Climate change will not only affect those with whom I work, but the world at large. From the air we breathe to the food we eat, everyone will feel the effects of climate change in years to come.
While I am not a policy guru (and hate desperately all the policy classes I've taken), I'm making an exception for the Carbon Dividend Act. Why, you ask? Because it is bipartisan, and because it is the most practical and realistic way for our country to tackle reducing our greenhouse gas emissions.
The Climate Change Bill
This bill, called the "Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act of 2019," is currently in the house with bipartisan sponsors. It also has religious backing from the Presbyterian and Catholic churches as well as a whole slew of other awesome advocates.
The projected effects of the bill are to cut U.S. emissions by at least 40% in the first 12 years. It will also provide extra income to U.S. households and create 2.1 million new jobs. I could go on with a long explanation on all its effects, but who doesn't prefer a quick and easy infographic? Check out this one from the bill's website.
What You Can Do
If you want more details on the bill, I recommend checking out the bill's or Citizens' Climate Lobby's website. And if you want a few other ways to make sustainable swaps at home, check out my post on 2 Free and Easy Eco-Friendly Swaps.
